Ingredient notes:

- Beef: I grabbed some rump steak for this recipe - because that's what was available at my local supermarket. You could also use pre-sliced stir fry beef if you prefer.
- Broccoli: This is another great recipe to use ever-available broccoli in. You could also use frozen broccoli if you prefer, just follow the instructions on the packet before adding it in.
- Soy sauce: I've used a reduced salt soy sauce in this recipe. If you are making this gluten free, be sure to use gluten free soy sauce, which is available in most major supermarkets.

Step by step instructions:
Whisk together all of the ingredients for the stir-fry sauce and set aside until ready to use. Place the broccoli in a bowl and cover with boiling water.

Place a large non-stick frying pan over a high-heat. Add the sesame oil and once heated, add the beef and quickly brown for 3 minutes. Drain the broccoli and add to the pan.

Make a space in the centre of the pan and pour in the stir-fry sauce. Bring it to a simmer then stir through the beef and broccoli. Cook while stirring until the sauce thickens up and beef is cooked through.

Serve immediately on top of steamed rice with a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Recipe FAQs:
I thinly sliced some rump steak for this recipe. But other cuts of meat that would work in this recipe include beef fillet, beef flank or sliced stir fry beef.
Meat can sometimes release a lot of liquid (or 'stew') if the pan isn't hot enough, or if it's overcrowded. Ensure you have your pan on a high heat so that your beef sears, instead of stewing. You can also cook your beef in batches if your pan is small.
Storage:
To get ahead you can prepare the stir fry sauce ahead of time.
Store any leftover beef and broccoli stir fry in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave until piping hot.
Top tips:
These flavours would also go well with chicken or pork if you prefer.

Going to give this go but what sauce can replace soy sauce?
VJ cooks says
You could use tamari, fish sauce, miso paste, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce or oyster sauce.

The sauce evaporates I added water too as it's dry otherwise

This one was a hit with the two teenage boys in our whare! I used pre-cut beef stir-fry pieces and threw in a mix of frozen Chinese veggies along with some fresh broccoli. Quick, easy, and full of flavour. Will definitely make this again — but next time I’ll double the recipe to keep up with their appetites!

This was great, even my fussy 8 year old liked this.
I added a little bit of oyster sauce and a little bit of ABC sweet soy to the sauce mixture & put onion in the fry pan.
Could even do noodles instead of rice!
VJ cooks says
Yes! Adapt it however you need to you for you and your loved ones!
